User Virtualbox Os X As Bootable Medium For Other Machine: Everything You Need to Know About Running

When you install VirtualBox, it does not automatically come with the ability to run all the listed operatings systems (as I used to think ). An external file called the ISO or system image file is needed. This is the "bootable medium " referenced above .It generally has the .iso file extension. This file can be found on the website of the OS you want, and must be downloaded. This file is also used if you actually want to install the particular OS on your PC/laptop.

If you are facing the no bootable medium found issue with your VirtualBox, it is important to look at plausible explanations for the error to arise before jumping to the fixes. The problem might be a result of various different reasons. Some of them are mentioned below.

If you are booting your VM via a live CD/DVD disc, it might be that the live CD/DVD option is not selected, and thus the virtual CD/DVD drive of the VM appears to be empty. This can cause the no bootable medium found error. To fix this, proceed as the following steps indicate.

The VirtualBox is a great utility that enables its users to run multiple operating systems simultaneously on a single computer. But like any other material thing, it can face issues. The "no medium found" is a rather commonly occurring issue that users have faced with their VirtualBox.

Because devices are all owned by root, you need to start VirtualBox with root privileges. This has consequences. Your home context (home folder and preferences) will be changed to root. Your other virtual machines will not be visible. If you open a file browser, you will see the root's home folder by default.

The packages on bootable media aren't encrypted. To make sure that the package contents are secured from unauthorized users, take appropriate security measures. For example, add a password to the media.

Distribute all content that the task sequence requires to at least one distribution point. This content includes the boot image and other associated prestart files. The wizard gathers the content from the distribution point when it creates the bootable media.

Protect media with a password: Enter a strong password to help protect the media from unauthorized access. When you specify a password, the user must provide that password to use the bootable media.

Need to run Windows 10 on a Mac? You can install and run Windows 10 in Mac OS X for free using VirtualBox and the Windows 10 Preview from Microsoft. Because this installs Windows into a virtual machine atop existing Mac system software, running Windows is basically like running any other application, which makes it much easier than configuring Boot Camp for a native Windows experience.

Top Summary: As a computer user, you may not know everything about your device. But, when it presents some errors, like operating system error, no bootable device error, hard disk errors, or no bootable medium found message, it is important you know what actions to take. Especially because most of the time you can fix the problem yourself.

Step 5. Now, you can check the boot order through the above steps. If the boot order is correct, click on OK to save the settings and start the VM to check if the VirtualBox fatal no bootable medium found disappears.

As you know, it is not possible to restore a corrupted ISO disk image that stored on a damaged hard disk. So, if you find the disk is damaged, the first thing you must do is to transfer all important data to another storage device and then to create a new bootable ISO disk image.

I went back to the previous step that directed to eject the external drive. After doing that, I checked in Disk Utility and was not able to see the disk. I removed and replaced the disk and it showed in Disk Utility . I unmounted it in Disk Utility and ran the command again. This time it mapped, but mapped to /users/my name/bootcamp.vmdk. When I continued to the VirtualBox, I ran into another error.

I tried the below-linked approach the other day and it worked flawlessly, and uses a free copy of WinToUSB from the virtual machine version of Windows to make the external disk bootable. This approach was flawless the first time. VMWare Fusion 12 has a free license for personal use (you just have to register an account) and is a lot less dodgy than VirtualBox, which I found to be slow and unstable by comparison.

I tried a few ways but only this worked for me:Needed: USB flash drive 8GB or more, Windows iso, VirtualBox + Extension Pack, WinToUSB ( ) and of course the external drive. WinToUSB free works with Windows10 Home. Please read info on their site for other Windows versions.Use Bootcamp Assistant to download the Windows Support files (you might need to click in the menu for Action).Use Disk utility to format the USB flash drive to exFAT and the external drive to GUID HFS+ or FATCopy the Windows iso, Windows Support files and WinToUSB to the USB flash drive and eject.Install VirtualBox and Extension Pack. Start VirtualBox and make a Windows10 virtual machine (VM), be sure the USB port is enabled.Start the Windows VM. Attach the USB flash drive and the external drive that you want Windows on.Copy the files from the flash drive to the VMs desktop.Install WinToUSB. Open WinToUSB and select the Windows iso as source and the external drive as goal. Let WinToUSB do its work. Wait until it says 100% and then (important:) click HOME. Now copy the Windows Support files to the external drive.Close the VM and VirtualBox and reboot. As soon as you hear the startup sound hold the Alt-key until you see the options for startup. Choose the EFI disk. Now you have to install Windows. When finished, open the Windows Support folder and click setup to install the Bootcamp-drivers.Done!

Regarding trackpad not working(soft click), its some sort of problem with windows 10 user accounts.Go to user accounts, create another account (administrator), log off from your default administrator account, log in to your newly created administrator account, go to user accounts and change the default account from administrator to standard. Now log in to your default (now standard account) and bootcamp control panel in the task bar should work fine. After the trackpad, you can again change account to administrator, if needed.

even though I entered virtualbox through the sudo command as directed, when trying to create the virtualbox it was unable to access the bootcamp.vmdk file giving me a VERR_ACCESS_DENIED error as follows Failed to open a session for the virtual machine WIN 10 2.

Bootable media is a CD, DVD, USB flash drive, or other removable media that enables you to run the agent without the help of an operating system. The main purpose of bootable media is to recover an operating system that cannot start.

Virtualbox, as the name suggests, is a virtual computer. Just as a computer has CD/DVD drives, Virtualbox comes with its virtual optical drive. This is where the user has to either attach the ISO file or select a host drive containing the bootable CD/DVD.

Selecting an incorrect boot order is another reason that you may receive the error message. This happens when the virtual drive where the OS is situated is selected as a boot device, and the virtual hard disk is not selected as a bootable medium.

The error "No bootable media found", indicates that VirtualBox cannot find a valid boot device to start the virtual machine (e.g. a mounted iso or a virtual disk with a bootable operating system) and can occur for any of the following reasons:

In order a virtual machine (VM) to work, you have to install an operating system on it. So, if you just created the VM machine and you haven't installed an operating system, attach a bootable .ISO file with the operating system that you want to install, and proceed to install the OS. *

As I mentioned above, the VirtualBox fatal error "No bootable medium found", can appear if the GUEST OS doesn't have a valid boot configuration.* At such a case you have to repair the boot files on the virtual disk in order the VM machine to start without errors.

* Note: If the VM machine doesn't boot from the ISO file, go to VM Settings > System > Motherboard and disable EFI. (After fixing the boot configuration and if the Guest OS is UEFI then proceed to re-enable UEFI. )

Oracle VM VirtualBox, cross-platform virtualization software that allows you to run multiple operating systems simultaneously, is no exception. It comes with VirtualBox Manager, a convenient GUI tool for controlling the Oracle VM VirtualBox settings and its virtual machines (VMs). On the other hand, you can use VBoxManage, the command-line interface (CLI) to Oracle VM VirtualBox. This article explains how to use VBoxManage to control Oracle VM VirtualBox from the command line of the host operating system.

In contrast, VBoxManage does not require the presence of the X Window System on your server, thus providing you with the ability to control Oracle VM VirtualBox on servers that have no graphical front end and, therefore, can run only console applications. Another benefit of using the CLI is that it permits scripting that can automate Oracle VM VirtualBox operation and eliminate repetitive user interaction.

GParted Live is a small bootable GNU/Linux distribution for x86based computers. It enables you to use all the features ofthe latest versions of the GParted application.GParted Live can be installed on CD, USB, PXE server, and Hard Diskthen run on an x86 machine.

See the GPartedLive Manual for instructions on how to use the Live image.See the GParted Manualfor instructions on how to use the application for partitioningtasks.See the documentation page for copiesof the GParted Manual in other languages. For x86-based Apple machines before 2012, e.g., iMac5.1 or iMac11.1, you might need to add "nomodeset enforcing=0 xforcevesa vga=791" in the boot parameters so that GParted live can boot successfully.
